Heart Hunger

Alisa Muniz Blanchard 2014

As inspired by Lalla (translated by Coleman Barks)

However it happened, I
Awoke one day and went
Running madly everywhere
A heart bursting with
longing
Quietly waited in
The torture of my
Hunger for my beloved’s eyes,
Resting I waited until
Time lingered here
Calling life in
Rupturing with abandon my
Sense of security and own
Sacred house

No matter how far I
Travelled nothing felt
Like the absolute truth
And how I ought to go about filling
The terrible aching of my
Trembling heart, only just came into sight
