I embrace this child at my chest,
No longer a baby
But tender still, in her youth
The rhythm of our breath
And song of our hearts
Is a concert, of its own accord
Wondering what tomorrow brings
Days of exploring
Discovering what life can give
Her thirst for life is infectious
Inviting me to live
And seize the world all over again
We could sing a thousand songs
And play leap frog
Or linger in each other’s warmth
Knowing this moment in life is brief
I just grin contently
For now her happiness is in my arms.
